movies are going to ruin my life

And I’m convinced they’ve already ruined yours.

I think the unrealistic expectations I have out of my life are 1. completely realistic if you romanticize everything and 2. extremely depressing if you’re constantly surrounded by mediocrity.

I noticed–a few months back, that I was only bored with my life because I was being very boring.

The source of my “interesting” life in the past was seriously just because I was face to face with the strange every. single. day. And even though it was fun, I enjoy my new-found life of not being in danger every day. But if that’s what you’re into, hey, more power to you.

When every day becomes almost exactly the same, where do you find the magic? The excitement? The movie-esque life you ought to live? And how do you create it without completely torching the foundation you had been tirelessly working to build this entire time?

life is the best movie of all

I think it first starts with the realization that life is actually the best movie of all. You get to play the main character and control a lot of the results.

Have you ever watched a movie or show where you find yourself yelling at the screen, “No, not that way!” or “Why would they say that!?” Well, that’s life itself. Though sometimes we wish we could have shouted out to ourselves in the past, we can definitely bring that awareness to present moments.

We get to change the setting, the supporting characters, the plot, whatever we want! If you don’t like the way the movie is turning out, you can definitely decide to switch gears and change it up.

movies suck

The truth is, movies suck. Especially the ones you see yourself in. You look for bits and pieces in your day to day life and you may get a glimpse or two but it’s never the same.

And truthfully, that’s completely fine.

Movies have fixed endings. No matter how many times we rewatch them, the endings don’t change.

And maybe life is like that too! But the best part is you’re watching this movie for the first time and you have no idea how it’s going to end.

So instead of just being a bystander and waiting to see what happens, why don’t you make your life into a movie you actually enjoy? Make it your favorite movie. Be a main character you want to watch, you crave to be and live a life you wouldn’t compare to a film–because it’s better.

Love,

your current movie-hating best friend,

Natalia
